I truly belive that you need to keep your self happy before you go out and save the world. If you are not satisfied or contented a little you cannot help others. Practice what you preach.
Someone might call it selfishness or egoistic attitude but inside I belive you need to be that a little. It might be in shopping for something you have really been putting off for some time or really spending some time alone at peace.
